Register89 is a web gazetteer: a factual, indexed record of destinations across the internet, organised into 22 subject chapters for ease of reference.
The project began from a simple observation — the web is vast, and navigating it without a structured index is cumbersome. Register89 applies the logic of a geographic gazetteer to the digital landscape, cataloguing sites by sector and recording their domain and description in a form that can be browsed systematically.
The index currently holds 829 entries. These span a range of industries and interests, from healthcare and legal services to gaming, travel, and the building trades. Each chapter of the gazetteer is maintained as a factual record of submitted destinations rather than an editorially curated shortlist.
Submission to Register89 is open and free of charge. When a site is submitted, its domain and description are noted and, once reviewed, added to the appropriate chapter of the index. The submitter determines the category; the Register records the entry.
Register89 does not rank, score, or endorse the sites it catalogs. It is a reference instrument — a point of orientation in a large and varied landscape. Readers are encouraged to consult the individual chapters that suit their interests, and to verify any listed destination independently before making use of it.
